Continue reading to know what causes water leakage in ACs and how you can fix it.

Immediate action to take when your AC is leaking water inside the house?

Turn Off the Air Conditioner

While thinking about how to fix things, we often tend to forget the basics. Make sure to switch off your Air conditioner and unplug it first

Clean the Water

Working simultaneously with electricity and water is very dangerous. To avoid slips, falls and reduce damage to your home décor, make sure to clean the water from the floor thoroughly.

 How much water is normal?

A small amount of water, a few drops to be precise is completely normal. Air Conditioners in humid and tropical tend to face this issue as the condenser is working very hard to cool the air inside the room. However, the water usually dries up because of the heat around the machine.

If your Air conditioner is, however, leaking water continuously and dripping throughout the day, your AC will need some servicing.

So, wondering ‘why does my AC leak water?’

Unclean Filter

Every AC comes with a filter that collects dust and dirt from the atmosphere and cleans the air. If not cleaned and serviced regularly, the filters clog and cause the unit’s evaporator coils to freeze. This causes extra water to flow from the drainage pipe.  Make sure to get your AC serviced every six months if you use it regularly or annually If you don’t use it that frequently.

Corroded Condenser Tray

A condenser tray is designed to hold the condensed water. If the tray rusts, accumulates too much dirt or breaks, water will start leaking when the AC is on.

Blocked Drain Pipes

Drainage Pipes carry the condensed water out of the house. If there is a big block in the pipe the water starts to leak from the body of the condenser. This is one of the most frequent causes. So make sure to regularly check the drainage pipes or get it checked by an Air Conditioning repair professional.

Faulty Installation

If your AC is relatively new but still leaking water, it is possible that there is an issue with its installation. Call the agency who has installed your AC and check with them.

Insufficient refrigerant level

Low refrigerant level in the AC causes it to lose pressure. This can freeze coils and may overflow the drain pan when it melts.

Blocked vents

Blocked vents can high pressure in the AC and lead to water leakage. Make sure to check all vents in your Air Conditioning System.
